How we make money, in plain terms
Modern Biology News is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com, and we also use other affiliate links from time to time. In plain terms: some links on this site — typically a "check price" or retailer button near a product mention — are affiliate links, and if you click through and buy something, we may earn a commission from Amazon or that other retailer. The price you pay doesn't change either way; the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket.
Why this page exists
The Federal Trade Commission requires any site with a financial stake in a recommendation to disclose it clearly, regardless of how genuine the recommendation is. That rule exists because a reader can't judge how much weight to give a mention without knowing whether the publisher is compensated when it's followed. This page is that disclosure, and a shorter version of it appears in the footer of every page on the site.
What we say about a study, a mechanism, or a product's evidence is decided by reading the available research first — full human trials, small pilot studies, animal-only data, or nothing published at all — before anyone here considers whether an affiliate relationship exists for anything mentioned in that piece. Commission rates are never part of that conversation, and a product with an affiliate link attached can still get an unflattering writeup if the evidence doesn't support the claims made about it.
Not every link is an affiliate link
Links to a published study, a government health agency, a university press release, or a manufacturer's own safety information are citations, not affiliate links — nobody earns anything when you click one of those. The commercial links are specifically the Amazon and retailer buttons attached to a product mention.
Where our information comes from
Explainers are built from publicly available material — published research, government and academic sources, and, where relevant, a product's own label or ingredient panel — not from free review units supplied by a brand and not from a paid placement. We don't accept payment in exchange for coverage, and we don't accept payment in exchange for a specific conclusion.
